Poonamallee road in Chennai to get wider bridge

The Tamil Nadu Highways Department plans to build a new and wider bridge across the Cooum near Ampa Skywalk on Poonamallee high road at a cost of 8 crore. The new bridge will be broader than the road and make traffic flow smoother. The Highways Department has floated tenders for the construction of what will be the third 'high level bridge' over the river. The bridge, at road level, will be at a height of 9.5 m from the riverbed and will be 47 m long.

IRB, SBI Macquarie may buy full stake in road projects

GMR InfrastructureÂ’s Farukhnagar-Jadcherla highway project, Shapoorji-PallonjiÂ’s Ulundurpet-Padalur stretch, and MVR InfraÂ’s Omallur-Salem-Namakkal road project will see a change in ownership soon. New investors have acquired a 74 per cent stake in these projects. Following the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs decision to relax exit norms for existing promoters, the new investors will now look to buy the entire stake.

UP faces fund shortage for its rural road project

The Uttar Pradesh government had earmarked Rs 2,125 crore for construction of roads under the Ram Manohar Lohiya Samagra Vikas Yojana in 1,598 villages in 2012-13. But now the government has scaled down the amount to just Rs 391 crore because of lack of funds, said a senior official in the State Panchayati Raj Department. And even out of the 391 crore, only Rs 100 crore has actually been released for the purpose so far, said the official.

AAI to execute Chennai, Kolkata airports’ PPP process

The Airports Authority of India has set up a cell to execute PPP process to operate and maintain airports at Kolkata, Chennai and other aerodromes as the Union Civil Aviation Ministry fast-tracking privatisation of management of the two major metro airports. The Key Infrastructure Development (KID) cell, which was in existence during the privatisation of Delhi and Mumbai airports, would handle the public-private partnership (PPP) process for Kolkata and Chennai airports, which are currently owne
