Sahyadri Group with Swachalay has extended a supporting hand to the nation and Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his commitment to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Sanitation Status in India

  • As per UNICEF, almost 594 million - 50 percent of India´s population defecates in the open.
  • Nearly 73 per cent households in rural India practice open defecation, according to an independent evaluation by the Planning Commission.
  • Toilet shortage fuelling India rape scourge as women easy prey: Badaun gang-rape highlights the dire necessity of sanitation and police reforms.
  • Toilets for the Girl Child: Globally, waterborne diseases kill more children than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. Waterborne diseases are caused due to the lack of safe drinking water and sanitation facilities. It is estimated that annually, about 37.7 million Indians are affected by waterborne diseases. Out of this, 1.5 million children are estimated to die of diarrhoea alone.

The statistics are even more alarming at school level. In India, 41.18 per cent schools don´t have separate toilets for girls. Some schools have only a single toilet, which is not clean. Single toilets increase the risk of not only disease transmission, but also sexual harassment. Many girls opt to drop out of school due to the lack of proper toilet facilities. It is especially true in the case of adolescent girls who skip school for five to six days every month, during menstruation. This hampers their education and leads them to drop out of school completely. The school drop out rate is 66 per cent for girls. Proper sanitation facilities in schools are critical for improving the rate of completion of school level education for the girls. Sahyadri Industries Limited (SIL) offers solution, which is hassle-free, environment friendly and fast to construct that is Cemply Swachalay - innovative green toilet blocks.

Swachalay for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Swachalay is the ideal green toilet for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. A revolutionary initiative that offers a sustainable toilet block, catering to critical needs, addresses sanitation requirements and helps develop the habit of hygiene among the populace at large. These modular toilet blocks can be installed and be ready to use in less than an hour. Swachalay installation is based on ¨Do it Yourself¨ technique. Swachalay has received India CSR Award for Innovative Green Toilet Technology on February 6, 2015 in New Delhi. Mr. Matteo Rizzi - Global Expertise & Authority, WASH Household Care, Unilever UK handed over the award to Mr. Satyen Patel Managing Director of Sahyadri Industries Ltd. in New Delhi.

Features of Cemply Swachalay

  • Green Sustainable Technology: An innovative technology has been developed by Sahyadri Industries Limited (SIL) that answers, enabling dignity to people without disabling the environment around. SIL´s team has created a modular toilet block and a plinth using eco-friendly materials.
  • These Toilet blocks are installed in less than an hour in any terrain and are made up of all-weather resistant Cemply sheets. The respective components are pre-fabricated and can just be assembled at the site in less than an hour without usage of cranes or such equipments.
  •  It is a green and eco-friendly solution. Raw materials used for producing the wall panels and doors include slag and fly-ash. The product consumes almost 35 per cent fly-ash which is a waste generated in Thermal Power Stations (TPS) and most of our TPS struggle in disposing off this waste. Also there is a huge wetting cost incurred by the TPS to stop it from flying in air and destroying the nearby crops and also affecting the health of human beings, birds and animals.
  • Another uniqueness of Swachalay: Innovative Green Toilet Technology is that it uses dry construction technique. It does not require water, sand, brick and mortar, typically used in conventional construction. As we know production of bricks is a major hazard to the ecosystem, as it involves using cultivable top soil, which takes a few decades for replenishment. The process of baking the bricks releases carbon mono-oxide and CO2 that causes lung diseases. Child labour is also being used in making bricks.
  • Speedy/uniform construction on a mass scale is feasible as SIL has five manufacturing facilities in India. Cemply Swachalay brings hygiene, health, and convenience in the affordable and durable way.

Sahyadri is committed to provide separate sanitation facilities to girls in schools. Sahyadri supported Radio City Campaign and pledge of RJ Kedar Joshi to build 10 toilets in Pune district by Women´s Day March 8, 2015. Sahyadri installed 25 Swachalays in 21 schools under this initiative for separate sanitation facilities for girls in Pune district. Sahyadri roped in the support of various corporate and stalwarts of Pune and the first toilet was donated to Pune school in Parvati by Lakshya (an NGO supporting sports) Women International fame Players.

Agree. Developing a domestic transshipment port is a good idea if we talk about seaports, there are several countries and commercial centers around the world that don’t have a seaport and these countries have to use the seaports of other countries in order to import or export their cargo, which will give a competitive advantage.
