Power Update Mar 01, 2014 Government starts auction of coal blocks The Union government has initiated auction of coal blocks by inviting applications for the first time, for allocating coal blocks through competitive bidding for specified end uses. The Ministry of Coal has offered three coal blocks for the auction. The Jhirki & Jhirki (West) of East Bokaro Coalfield, Jharkhand has approximate geological reserves of 267.91 mt (coking coal) for steel (blast furnace).

Steel Authority of India (SAIL) will spend Rs 9,000 crore next fiscal, followed by iron ore miner NMDC Rs 4,345 crore and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) Rs 1,600 crore to expand and modernise their operations.
Power Update Dec 01, 2013 ONGC starts shale gas operations ONGC has started drilling of shale gas at the Kanteri village in Barkagaon police station area of Hazaribag district. Corporate Communication Chief of ONGC, Bokaro, R Prasad said that in other parts of the world like the US shale gas wells have started in large scale but in India it will be a new experiment at Kanteri.
