Western Coalfields Ltd. (WCL), a subsidiary of the world’s largest coal mining company Coal India Ltd. (CIL), has drawn an ambitious roadmap to almost double its coal despatch capacity through rail mode to meet additional demand of consumers of the power sector.

Due to overwhelming demand, the Indian Railway has decided to increase the frequency of Devlali-Muzaffarpur bi-weekly Kisan Rail as tri-weekly with effect from September 8. Giving this information through a press release, Central Railway said that the frequency of Link Kisan Rail was also being increased from bi-weekly to tri-weekly between Sangola and Manmad.

The Mumbai Division of Central Railway in the Indian Railways has procured two Ninja UAVs for better security and surveillance in railway areas like station premises, railway track sections, yards, workshops, etc.

The country’s largest power generation company, NTPC Ltd has developed an infrastructure at Rihand project in Uttar Pradesh to transport fly ash in bulk to cement plants, located at distance, at a cheaper cost. The development is in line with NTPC's commitment towards 100 per cent utilisation of fly ash from power plants.

The Indian Railways was confident of completing the entire 2,800 km of the dedicated freight corridor projects by 2022, the head of Dedicated Freight Corridor Corp. of India Ltd (DFCCIL) has claimed.

Despite challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Railways managed to carry more freight than even last year’s level. On July 27 the freight loading was 3.13 million tonnes (MT), which was higher than last year for the same date.

Vinod Kumar Yadav was reappointed as Chairman, Railway Board, in the rank of Ex-Officio Principal Secretary to the government. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) approved the re-employment of Yadav as Chairman Railway Board for a period of one year starting January.

Considerable investments are planned through private sector participation in addition to investments through internal resources of VPT for port modernisation in the major thrust areas of deepening of channels and berths, development of new berths, modernisation and mechanisation of existing berths and improvements in connectivity and other logistics such as multi-model logistic parks, said MT Krishna Babu, Chairman, Port of Visakhapatnam.

The initial outcomes of efforts to modernise the Railways are ¨overwhelmingö but they are just a ¨trailer¨, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has said.
