The country’s largest integrated power utility, Tata Power on Thursday announced the takeover of the management and operations of Odisha-based power distribution utilities WESCO and SOUTHCO upon completion of the sale process.

The Indian electricity grid is going through various transformational changes linked to the initiatives taken bythe Government of India for renewable energy, reduction in distribution losses, improvement in the availability of supply, better services to consumers and energy efficiency.

India’s largest integrated power utility, Tata Power, on Tuesday announced that it has taken over the management of Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) of Odisha, after receiving the letter of intent (LOI) from the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) for the distribution and retail supply of electricity in the eastern state’s five circles.

Targeting a generation of 50 MW of solar power within one year, Odisha government said its comprehensive solar policy would be in place in the next two months. The State Science and Technology Secretary DN Gupta said that private investors were interes­ted to put their money in the sector.
