The Shramik Special trains operationalised by the Indian Railways have carried over 4.8 million passengers, including migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places due to the nationwide lockdown since commencing services at the beginning of May. To date, 2,800 such services have been operated by Asia's second-largest railway transporter. The Railways commenced operation of these special services after the Ministry of Home Affairs order from May 1, on the occasion of Labour Day. Around 5,000 passengers availed of the service on the first day.
