Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL) has announced the ‘Call for Artwork’, inviting artists and art groups to submit proposals art at Terminal 2 (T2) of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIAB or BLR Airport).
Once ready, BLR Airport’s T2 will reflect the dual themes of Karnataka’s rich heritage and culture and navarasa or the nine emotions highlighted in Sage Bharata’s treatise on performing arts, Natyashastra.
According to a BIAL press release, the proposals, invited for specific locations across T2, must be original and not a replica of previous work. An independent advisory panel and BIAL stakeholders will evaluate the proposals.
“As a gateway to new India, at BLR Airport, we aim to give our travellers a true experience of our state and country. Art has the amazing ability to create delight during a passenger’s journey through our airport and will provide a bit of wonder to the otherwise mundane act of boarding a flight. This is a great opportunity for artists to showcase their talent at an airport, which provides great visibility to both the artwork as well as artists,” stated a BIAL spokesperson.
BIAL’s art programme will include permanent displays and rotating exhibitions all coming together to enhance the aesthetics of T2 and create a meaningful experience for sharing stories about BLR Airport, Bengaluru’s culture and the very people who make it unique.
The art programme hopes to create lighter moments at the terminal and evoke a feeling of pride among the people of Karnataka. BIAL’s Art Programme is aimed at making a journey a memorable experience, through art.
