The SCADA-DMS Project for Patna city undertaken by Schneider Electric (SE) has been inaugurated by Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister, Bihar. The SCADA-DMS Project is undertaking power monitoring, control and modernisation of the Patna electric distribution network.
The project’s scope includes the data centre, DMS Control Centre (Distribution Management System), grid modernisation, automation of existing and new substations, RMU’s automation, telecom network, integration of GIS Mapping, efficient exchange of data from and to customer care and billing.
The project funding has been done via Power Finance Corporation under the Government of India’s R-APDRP (Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme) initiative. The project will benefit all stakeholders in Bihar — citizens, the Bihar discom (BSEB) and the Bihar state.
For residents of Patna, the benefits include quality power and 24/7 availability in line with the government vision; no voltage fluctuations; safety and reliability to ensure no accidents; efficient services and billing; modern customer care and billing centre integration; enablement to manage distributed energy resources (rooftop solar/net metering) and enabling customers to participate in demand response.
For BSEB, the benefits comprise reduced power losses (AT&C loss); better financial health; lesser breakdown, better revenue protection and reduced outages (improved SAIDI & SAIFI), mapping and indexing of consumers; efficient and effective energy control; quick fault identification and resolve to reduce revenue losses from ENS (Energy Not Supplied); modernisation of assets; geographical mapping of network; skilled and trained resources; and capacity to meet rapidly-growing power demand.
The benefits for Bihar include: making it the leading state on India’s Smart Grid map; providing safe, reliable and economical power, 24/7 power to citizens through efficiency improvements; improving the financial health of BSEB; introduction of new Smart Grid technology starting with SCADA distribution system enabling future proof smart grid technology such as self-healing, renewable integration, demand response, smart metering and outage management; safe and reliable power to fuel industrial and commercial growth; satisfied consumers and citizens in Bihar.
