Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the operator of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) or BLR Airport, in conjunction with the Bengaluru Bicycle Mayor, Sathya Sankaran has announced the opening of the airport campus to cyclists every Sunday between 0600 and 0930 hours.
Historically, the movement of cyclists at BLR Airport campus was restricted due to safety concerns. Having improved its road infrastructure, BLR Airport is now all set to welcome cyclists.
“As the frontrunner in sustainability-related initiatives, by opening our campus to the cycling community, BIAL reiterates our long-standing commitment to a greener future. We believe that this initiative will encourage more people to take up cycling,” said a BIAL Spokesperson.
“All cyclists are requested to follow safety guidelines during the time they spend at BLR Airport,” the spokesperson added.
“As cyclists, we are always on the lookout for places that are both safe and picturesque in which we can ride. It has been our long-standing desire to be able to ride at BLR Airport, with its paved roads and beautiful landscapes. The cycling community looks forward to enjoying this opportunity,” said Sankaran.
Cyclists from the city can now ride to the airport on Sunday mornings to enjoy an early morning coffee or have a meal at any of the restaurants that offer a wide range of breakfast choices. A dedicated cycle parking facility will be available near The Quad by BLR to help cyclists enjoy the space while their bikes are monitored by BIAL’s efficient security systems.
