KBL fire-fighting pump sets Atal Tunnel project

Kirloskar Brothers KBL) has supplied which is the world’s longest motorable tunnel. The fire-fighting pump sets for deployment along the 9-km tunnel situated at Rohtang, Manali, in Himachal Pradesh was opened to public by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier month.

The strategically important all-weather Atal Tunnel connects Manali to Leh and is located in the Pir Panjal range of Himalayas at an altitude of 10,000 feet above the sea level. An engineering marvel it deploys the best-in-class technology and state-of-the-art mechanical and electrical engineering systems, which are essential for fire and life safety of the project.

Most countries stipulate that fire pumps meet the standards prescribed by the National Fire Protection Association –, US. KBL designs its fire pump-sets as per NFPA-20 specifications to meet the stringent fire safety norms and at the same time for cost-effectiveness.

KBL has developed the ‘FR’, “FH”, , “FF” and ‘MSF’ series of pumps are FM approved and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed, and are exclusively used for fire-fighting applications. It also designs and manufactures bespoke fully integrated packaged pumping solutions matched to the customer specifications and environmental requirements. The pumping systems of KBL are manufactured and exhaustively tested in compliance with stringent approval standards set by these agencies.

KBL has also developed the KFE series of engine-driven pump sets for fire fire-fighting applications in buildings and industries. Each KFE pump set is factory assembled and tested as per NBC (National Building Code (NBC) and ISstandards.
