NMDC Working Proactively for COVID-19 Prevention

Keeping in view the prevalence of COVID-19 pandemic and the guidelines issued by the government, NMDC Ltd has implemented various preventive measures at its offices and plants for the protection of its employees. The state-owned mineral producer has focused on disinfecting and sanitising work stations, washrooms and pantry spaces at regular intervals. Prolonged chronic treatment employees, pregnant ladies and those employees vulnerable to contagious diseases have been allowed to work from home.
NMDC has implemented the preventive measures in office premises like thermal scanning of temperature of all employees at the entrance, provided masks to sanitation and security personnel, and usage of sanitizers, put restrictions on entry of visitors and launched massive awareness campaigns using visual communication tools like banners, posters, hoardings and electronic boards at offices and plants premises at its Hyderabad headquarters, Bailadila iron ore mines, steel plant at Nagarnar (Chhattisgarh), Donimalai iron ore mines and plant (Karnataka) and Diamond Mining Project (Panna in Madhya Pradesh).
NMDC is also promoting social distancing among employees at the headquarters, plants and offices. As instructed by the government, the working hours of all employees are being staggered so as to avoid mass gatherings at the time of reporting and closing of shifts. NMDC has also drafted daily and weekly roaster for employees. All meetings are being avoided and, if required, they are conducted through video conferencing.
An amount of Rs. 1,000 each was given to all contractual, daily salaried workers and trainees including their regular employees to meet expenses for preventing COVID-19. This was done to instill confidence in the employees, especially the daily salaried workers that the company is with them in this difficult time.
The corporation also distributed pamphlets on dos and don’ts as well as disinfectant soaps at all its offices, mines, townships and surrounding villages, where in more than 50,000 families were covered. Public awareness is created by mobile vehicle announcements in townships and nearby villages.
NMDC also supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Janta Curfew and lighting of lamp to show solidarity with the nation’s corona warriors like doctors and nurses.
