India expects to launch its auction of shale gas blocks by the end of 2013, Oil Secretary GC Chaturvedi has said recently. The country wants to start the first round of the auction by the end of 2013. Shale gas production involves a process called hydro-fracturing, which requires pumping water, sand and chemicals into the ground to crack open the rock and force the oil or gas to the surface.
