The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has notified establishment of the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) with effect from March 1, this year under the Land Ports Authority of India Act, 2010.

The Authority comprises a Chairman and two whole-time Members and will have representation of officials concerned from the Centre and the states.The Office of the Land Ports Authority of India shall temporarily, be located at Vigyan Bhawan Annexe till the LPAI sets up its own Head Quarter at New Delhi.

The LPAI has been tasked with the responsibility of putting in place systems which address security imperatives relating to the cross border movement of passengers, vehicles and goods as also developing Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) at designated points along the international borders of India.
