To review progress of road construction along China border, the Indian Home Ministry will hold a review meeting this week. Media had last week highlighted about the tardy pace of construction of the key stretches in Sikkim and Uttarakhand that are being built for Indo-Tibet Border Police (ITBP).

The Home Ministry officials said the meeting will be attended by representatives of Central agencies, which have undertaken the road projects along the border. Government had launched the programme to build 27 link roads, totaling 804 km in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.

All these projects were to be completed by April. Though the fresh target has been extended till April, 2014, chances of completion in some of the stretches appear remote. Of the 27 link roads that are crucial for ITBP operations, Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is executing eight projects while Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is involved in 15 ventures.
