Unable to get sufficient land and remove encroachments coming in the way of proposed LIG link road, Indore Development Authority (IDA) has once again sent a request to the Madhya Pradesh government for reconsidering to keep width of road to 18 metre against 24 metre as proposed in the master plan.
The Authority’s budget for 2013-14 has proposed Rs 5 crore for construction of the important link road that will connect AB Road to Ring Road and is expected to reduce traffic on BRTS. IDA CEO Deepak Singh on March 28 said board has decided in the interest of city to send request to State government to consider reducing width of link road.
For quite some time, width of proposed LIG link road is a bone of contention between IDA and Town and Country Planning (TnCP). TnCP maintains the width of the road was fixed as 24 m in master plan prepared in 1975 and it should not be tampered with. On this vexed issue, the TnCP is yet to assign its approval for the link road layout.
IDA had started construction work in 2011 on the road and they want to keep the width of the road to 18 metres as they are finding it difficult to get the land. Officials believe that if pressure is mounted for constructing 24 m width road, this important link road would never be completed.
