RPS Kahlon, Chairman of Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) informed that the port aims to handle 96 million tonne (mn t) traffic per annum.
He said this while addressing an interactive session organized by the MCC Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
Kahlon, however, admitted falling traffic handling ability at the port recently. Moderation in iron ore exports following a hike in export duty and diversion of cargo after the emergence of Paradip-Haldia crude oil pipeline led to the port losing cargo volume in recent period. The port is said to be losing 4-3 million crude oil cargo following the setting up of the Paradip-Haldia crude oil pipeline.
