A public interest litigation has asked the Bombay HC to direct the Maharashtra government to complete a flyover near Virar station. A delay of five years in completing the flyover has inconvenienced people, it said. The PIL, filed by corporator Rajkumar Chorghe states that work order for the flyover, in place of level crossing number 40, was issued on May 5, 2006 by the executive engineer, Public Works Department, Thane, to M/s Ajapial Mangal and Company.

The firm was to complete construction in 24 months. Thereafter, the period of construction was extended and till date it is incomplete, the petition said.

The petition said while Virar (W) has most of the private and government hospitals and primary health centres, residential premises are located in Virar (E). Colleges too are in Virar (W), it said, adding that in absence of the flyover a detour is needed to travel to and from east to west and residents have to spend more auto fares.

Despite a sanction order, it seems that, for reasons best known to respondent no. 1, they do not want to take initiative to complete the flyover, the PIL states. Chorghe urged the HC to call for all records pertaining to the flyover and direct the respondents to complete it in three months.
