The massive flood in Uttarakhand has not only affected the lives of common men in the state, but also the business of several companies.
For example, companies that are setting up various projects in the state are facing tremendous risk. Companies like L&T Hydro, Lanco Group and UJVN, that are setting up a series of hydel projects in the Rudraprayag area, may be badly affected.
The flood completely destroyed scores of hotel buildings, particularly in Uttarakashi, Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts.
Further, around 14,000 micro industries and business units across three districts are affected. There has been no activity at all in the past week.
Development in the hill state has been largely along the roads, which run parallel to the Ganga and its tributaries. Of the two main tributaries, the Bhagirathi was relatively quiet, while towns and villages on the banks of the Alaknanda paid a heavy price.
