Two major ports likely to come up at Sagar and Dugarajapatnam

Two new major ports are likely to come up at Sagar in West Bengal and at Dugarajapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. RITES has estimated capital requirement, including connectivity project cost at Rs 78.2 bn for Sagar Port. Technical committee set up by Ministry of Shipping has estimated the tentative cost for Dugarajapatnam port at Rs 79.88 bn. The Government of India has taken number of steps to modernize major ports in the country. 32 port projects were awarded involving an estimated cost of Rs. 67.65 billion with capacity addition of 136.75 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in 2012-13. During the current financial year, 5 projects are awarded involving capacity addition of 48.59 MTPA with an investment of Rs 20.45 bn.
