In Tamil Nadu, the Rs 1,815-crore Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated link road was conceived for speedy evacuation of containers from Maduravoyal and now it has been stalled by the State Public Works Department stating there was a deviation in the alignment from the approved project. Stopping of the project will have a very big impact on Tamil Nadu and the countryÂ’s economy, cautioned Vijay Chhibber, Secretary, Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Talking on the stalled project, Vijay Chhibber said the project has been stopped due to a mis-communication. How can an alignment go wrong after years, he asked. It is a good project meant to solve the congestion woes of Chennai Port. The current development will have a very big impact on the State and the countryÂ’s economy, he added. With the stoppage of the project, even contractors will hesitate and would think twice before taking up new projects, he said.
Chhibber said that the project stopped due to the change of government in the state. The development would impact all the future projects including that of Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC), he warned further.
