Recommending to improve roads in Pune city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has prepared a policy note and submitted the same report to the Bombay High Court. The High Court had asked the PMC to submit the report, following a public interest litigation (PIL) on the poor condition of roads in Pune.
The PMC’s standing technical advisory committee (STAC) report has provided recommendations to improve the road department’s works, road specifications and tender systems, among others.
PMC officials said the STAC was constituted to give expert opinion for framing of the policy in 2007 and had conducted seven meetings between 2007 and 2008. The committee was not functional for next three years, following the resignation of its chairman. It resumed work in 2012 and conducted 11 meetings to draft the policy (STAC report).
