The Tamil Nadu government is likely to get Rs 8,583 crore for various road projects of 1,678 km of length. The road works are expected to commence from next year, Rajeev Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Highways and Minor Ports, said in Chennai on October 7.
He was speaking at the Suminfra 2013, an infrastructure summit, organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
He said Rs 65 crore has been earmarked to prepare detailed project reports on the project. He said that road works proposed would be a biggest externally-aided project in the state so far.
