India will not be wrapping the deal on Koodankulam 3 and 4 Energy pact with Russia.
Instead, the country will push for an energy pact with Russia that could see a parallel twin gas and oil pipeline bringing energy over land into India. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in Moscow on a two-day visit for the 14th India-Russian annual summit at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin on October 20.
Earlier, it was indicated that During the Prime Minister’s visit Koodankulam 3 and 4 Energy pact will be wrapped up.
As anti-nuclear activists began protesting against the nuclear power plant in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu citing safety concerns, where the first 1,000 mw reactor at the plant had gone critical in July and power generation is expected soon, both Russia and India are said to be in broad agreement on the text of the contract on Koodankulam, but have hit the expected brick wall on the civil liability clause in the Nuclear Damage Act.
