A technical seminar on "Technological Advancements in Large size Thermal & RO Desalination plants" was organised by IDE Technologies India. The purpose of seminar was to inform the latest innovations and technological advancements in Desalination techno-logies to a large number of audiences from different walks of industries and consulting bodies.

IDE Technologies is a world leader and pioneer in desalination technologies with more than 400 units operations in 40 countries over last 40 years. IDE Technologies introduced the thermal technologies like Multi Effect Distillation (MED) and Mechanical Vapour Compression (MVC) technologies and first of the units was deployed in 1981 at Virgin Island.

The session followed a technical presentation by Sanjeev Sharma on the latest innovations brought by IDE in desalination world like Pressure Centre concept (reducing the specific power consumption of large size RO facilities), 16" RO membranes in a vertical arrange-ment (reducing the foot print area of such plants by almost 25-30 per cent), pipe jacking method for intake and outfall, thus eliminating the danger to coastal ecology etc.

Sunil Bhargava, Tech VP, made a presentation on Progreen, an innovative green approach in RO which eli-minates the use of chemicals in pre-treatment and clea-ning of RO membranes during operation of RO plants.

Audience took deep interest in all presentations with question and answer sessions after each presentation. All the guests were presented with IDE DOK (pen-drive loaded with IDE credentials and literature). Technical sessions were followed by cocktail and dinner.

Guest included senior and middle management people from end users/companies like Itochu, Toyota, NCC, Vishwa Infra, NTPC, ONGC, IOCL, WOG, IL & FS, Toshiba, Jindal Power, Lanco, Zuari Agro, Alstom, NS Thermal Power, Sravanthi Group, Lalitput Power etc. Consultants like Tetra Tech, Mott Macdonald, Desein were also present.
