In Odisha, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has reportedly interested to buy Dhamra Port Co (DPCL), a venture of Larsen and Toubro and Tata Steel, early this year for about Rs 5,000 crore, say media reports quoting sources in the companies mentioned. APSEZ is set to buy Dhamra port after its operator secured environmental and coastal clearances for its second phase of expansion.

If the deal realised it will become the largest in IndiaÂ’s portÂ’s sector after Pipavav port in Gujarat was acquired by APM Terminals Management BV in 2005 from IndiaÂ’s SKIL Infrastructure.

The expert appraisal committee (EAC) has recommended environment and coastal regulation zone clearances to the second phase of expansion at Dhamra port at its meeting held between September 19 and 21, according to the minutes of the meeting put up on the environment ministryÂ’s website.
