Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister wants union oil ministry to take immediate steps to ensure sufficient natural gas supply to the state and help overcome the power shortage.
The chief minister requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to direct oil ministry to boost gas supply for the state. He made this request when he met the Prime Minister during his recent visit to Delhi.
In a letter submitted to the Prime Minister, the minister explained the acute gas shortage to run gas-based power generation plants in the state.
Reddy wanted the centreÂ’s intervention so that this would help facilitate diversion of 3 mmscmd from KG -D6 presently being supplied to the fertiliser units in Gujarat and Maharashtra.
In lieu, these units can be supplied with RLNG from the west coast. The centre was also requested to allocate 2 mmscmd of regular long-term contract RLNG (Qatar Gas) to the state for the next six months.
In order to operate gas-starved power plants, the chief minister also sought allocation of non-administered price mechanism (non-APM) gas of 7 mmscmd to the state as and it is available.
