Andhra Pradesh government invited solar power developers to submit applications within four weeks for setting up solar photovoltaic power plant in the state.

The state government assured that it would pay Rs 6.49 per kWh of power generated from such plants.

AP Transco proposed to rope in any solar power developer, even those who have not participated in the recently concluded competitive bidding for 1,000 mw.

This proposal was approved by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy recently. They will be offered Rs 6.49 a unit as decided by Group of Ministers.

In its earlier bidding for awarding 1,000 mw solar power projects, AP Transco received response from 35 bidders who were willing to set up a total capacity of about 418 mw at the agreed power purchase price of Rs 6.49 a unit.

The state government expects to tap solar power potential by attracting more developers through this decision.

M Sahoo, State Principal Secretary, Energy, while reviewing the progress of solar power projects bidding with AP Transco and New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh said the government is committed to encourage setting up of non-renewable energy.
