Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said he would ask the central government to allot Rs 20,000 crore under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission-2 (JNNURM-2).
Reddy is learnt to have discussed this at a meeting of the state-level steering committee (SLSC). The centre may launch the JNNURM-2 in 2014.
Media reports, however, indicate that the central government may allot Rs 13,200 crore under the second phase of the mission to the state.
During the last eight years, the state could complete only 145 out of the total 253 projects sanctioned under JNNURM-1, data released at the SLSC meeting shows.
Factors like encroachments, problems in land acquisition, lack of clearance from railways affected 66 projects under JNNURM-I. Meanwhile, 42 projects are at different stages of execution.
Projects taken up under Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for small and medium towns, a component of JNNURM, were also inordinately delayed
because of several reasons.
Official sources informed that the state government has also delayed releasing its share of funds for some projects under JNNURM.
