In Andhra Pradesh, the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways has notified/cleared 11 State roads as national highways spanning a length of 1,817 km. Of this bunch of approvals, five State roads are already notified as national highways and the rest of the six have been now cleared to be taken up as national highways.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, while expressing happiness, conveyed his gratitude to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Minister for National Highways C.P.Joshi for clearing these proposals by the state. According to a statement from the Chief MinisterÂ’s Office, this is for the first time that the State has managed to get 11 new national highway projects for development in one financial year.
With the decision to cover these 11 roads, Andhra Pradesh will have 28 national highway projects spanning a total length of 6,547 km, including 17 national highways completed covering a stretch of 4,730 km.
Following this development, the density of national highways in Andhra Pradesh will go up to 2.38 km for 100 sq. km from 1.72 km . According to the notification, these include a highway starting from junction with NH-59 near Asika connecting Rayadurg and going up to Motu in Odisha and terminating on NH-30 in the State, another project related to NH-40 connecting Badvel and terminating at Krishnapatnam, along with other projects.
