To improve road connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh, the Union government has approved a network of roads and bridges at a cost of Rs 819 crore. The Union Rural Development Ministry’s decision in this regard comes just ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Beijing and it emphasises the strategic importance of the bordering state over parts of which China lays claim. Construction of 57 roads and 58 long-span bridges, covering 842 km, have been cleared by the pre-empowered committee of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
