Indian power companies are often global by compulsion, seeking coal from mines acquired abroad.Adani Mining Pty, the Australian arm of the Adani Group, commenced its mining exploration programme in the Galilee Basin in Queensland, Australia. Now, the Adani Group is the single largest Indian investor in Australia in coal mining, creation of dedicated railway infrastructure to transport the coal to ports and dedicated coal terminals such as Adani Abbott Point Coal Terminal.

The reward to Adani Enterprises, a part of the group, for being India’s largest coal importer was that it will now supply 4 mt coal to the formidable NTPC in Q1 2013.The company will supply 1 mt of imported coal to the Talcher power stations, 1 mt for Farakka and Kahalgaon stations, 0.5 mt for Simhadri and Ramagundam stations, 0.8 mt for Dadri, Rihand, Singrauli, Tanda, Unchchar and Vindhyachal stations, and 0.7 mt for Korba and Sipat stations.

Meanwhile, the group’s ubiquitous new advertisement flaunting its new logo has already started attracting the readers. Earlier, Forbes Asia ranked Gautam Adani as the 7th Richest Indian in 2011, while Fortune ranked him as the Business Leader of the Next Decade in its February 2011 issue. Now, the Rs 33,000 crore Adani Group has unveiled its new corporate brand identity that, the group claims, is intended “to reflect its integrated business model and global presence”.

The brand consultancy Wolff Olins refurbished Adani Group’s identity in purple that represents its three main businesses resources, logistics and energy. Unveiling the new global brand identity in Mumbai, Gautam Adani said, “The new corporate identity captures the Adani Group’s journey from its humble beginnings in Ahmedabad to its current global presence with mining assets in Australia and Indonesia.Today, is an important day for all of us as it marks the culmination of some important milestones in the Adani journey.Firstly, on realising the potential of an integrated business model, we have decided to focus on three clusters Resources, Logistics and Energy, which will be our key growth drivers.”
