Bangalore Mayor DV Venkatesh Murthy has warned the contractor of road work of Mysore Road that if he does not finish the work by April 30, the work will be transferred to Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL). Also, the contractor would be banned from taking up projects for two years
Venkatesh Murthy has taken note of the delay in completing work on Mysore Road and the problems it poses to commuters. The mayor has given the three months to the contractor in-charge to finish the work or face the music. The mayor also directed the BBMP engineers to assess the road work for two months.
The engineers found that the contractor had employed only 10 to 15 labourers, even though the requirement is of at least 50. On some days, it was found that there were no workers at all. Murthy and chairperson of the BBMP’s major works committee, Sridhar Reddy, were in favour of immediately transfer the remaining work to the KRIDL. However, upon the contractor’s request, the plan was scrapped and the deadline extended.
