For constructing four bridges connecting Goshree Islands in Kochi, the Kerala government has given its in-principle nod, said the State Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the city on May 12. He was speaking after inaugurating the newly-constructed office building of Goshree Islands Development Authority (Gida) and the inland water transport terminal.
The CM said necessary steps would be taken to give approval for the project and a detailed project plan would be prepared soon. The 160-crore project will connect Moolampilly-Pizhala, Valiya Kadamakkudy-Chathanad, Pizhala-Valiya Kadamakkudy and Pizhala-Cheriya Kadamakkudy islands and will be beneficial for the residents.
The work on Moolampilly-Pizhala and Valiya Kadamakkudy-Chathanad bridges will start first, the Chief minister said. The 6,000 sq ft new office building of Gida and inland water transport terminal was constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore. Gida has been functioning from a rented building since its formation in 1994. Though the building was planned to be completed in 12 months, authorities said it was finished before deadline.
