The Bundled Solar Water Heater (BSWH) project is likely to take off in Orissa soon. The project involves the installation of solar water heaters in commercial and institutional buildings, enabling users to sell green energy through carbon credit deals.
Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will amend its existing bylaws to make the installation of solar water heaters mandatory in commercial and institutional buildings. On its part, the state energy department will ensure that Grid Corporation of Orissa (Gridco) buys green power generated by these solar water heaters.
The Karnataka government has already made the installation of solar water heaters mandatory in commercial and institutional buildings while the Maharashtra government has made the installation compulsory in cities like Mumbai and Pune.
