A dispute between two stevedore companies at Paradip Port lead to a grinding halt of cargo handling at Paradip Port. Due to the cargo halt, around 700 iron-ore laden trucks were stranded on the busy 65-km stretch of NH-5(A) from Balichandrapur to the port town.
As per the sources at the prot, Odisha Motors, a private stevedore company, got licence on June 11, 2010, to transport iron ore through trucks from Keonjhar to Paradip. However, Odisha Motors was yet to get permission from Paradip Port Trust (PPT) to handle cargo at the port.
The company, earlier, used to handle cargo in collaboration with Swastik Stevedore as the latter got licence from the PPT to handle cargo in the port. But recently Swastik refused to cooperate with Odisha Motors, leading to stranding of hundreds of iron-ore laden trucks.
