India to ease overseas flying norms to airlines
The Union government is to drop the condition of '5/20 rule' to Indian airlines by next November to fly on overseas routes. The government is to scrap the rule requiring airlines to fly on domestic routes for five years and to possess a fleet of at least 20 planes before launching overseas operations, say media reports.
Air Costa plans to invest Rs 618 cr
The first regional airline from Andhra Pradesh Air Costa has unveiled plans to invest about Rs 618 crore ($100 million) over the next two years and about Rs 3,092 crore ($500 million) over 15 years. It plans to have a fleet size of 25 aircraft by 2018.
AAI offers 30-year contract of Chennai, Lucknow airports
As part of privatisation, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is offering a 30-year contract for Chennai and Lucknow airports. The privatisation is to be extended to Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Guwahati airports. The Union Civil Aviation Ministry said that eleven firms have shown interest to take up maintenance of the airports.
Delhi and Birmingham airports sign MOU to strengthen links between the two cities
Following the recent launch of direct flights between Delhi International Airport (India) and Birmingham Airport (UK), the two airports have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize a working relationship and commit to developing links between the two cities even further.
Russia plans to make commercial aircraft in India
In a move to slash cost of aircraft production India and Russia are planning production of two types of commercial aircraft in India. The move is expected to cut down the cost of aircraft production by 40 per cent, say media reports. Both the countries eye possible production of Russia's Superjet 100 regional airliner and a future Irkut MS-21 jetliner on the territory of India.

By keeping majority of shares of the Male airport Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, the Maldivian government has decided to sell remaining shares of the gateway airport to the citizens of the country.
Dibrugarh Airport in Assam gets aerobridge facility
At Assam's Dibrugarh Airport, two aerobridges became operational in the new terminal building of the airport on October 3. Paban Singh Ghatowar, Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region inaugurated the aerobridges. Dibrugarh is the third airport to have the facility of aero-bridges after Kolkata and Guwahati airports in the region.
Air services to Rameswaram, Kanyakumari
Experts say air connectivity to tourist spots like Kanyakumari, RamĂÂeswaram in the country will improve the growth of such tourism centres. As per a proposal of the Union Civil Aviation MinistryĂâs proposal, one can expect a 20-seater or a 40-seater passenger aircraft to land in a civilian airport in Kanyakumari or RamĂÂeswaram.
Mumbai airport to get 100 AEDs for medical emergencies
To handle any medical emergencies at Mumbai airport, 100 new Automated External Defibilirators (AEDs) will be installed by the year end. The AED is a portable device that can automatically diagnose a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), and help save life with the press of a button, stated a release.
