India to ease overseas flying norms to airlines

The Union government is to drop the condition of '5/20 rule' to Indian airlines by next November to fly on overseas routes. The government is to scrap the rule requiring airlines to fly on domestic routes for five years and to possess a fleet of at least 20 planes before launching overseas operations, say media reports.

The move is expected to cut down the cost of aircraft production by 40 per cent, say media reports. At Assam's Dibrugarh Airport, two aerobridges became operational in the new terminal building of the airport on October 3. Paban Singh Ghatowar, Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region inaugurated the aerobridges.
