Ministry wants to replace DGCA with new regulatory body
The Union government is likely to place a new legislation in the ongoing session of Parliament that will replace the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the present regulator, with a new autonomous regulatory body. Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said the Cabinet note on the creation of the new regulatory body — the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) — was being prepared.

Airbus upbeat on India demand

The European planemaker recently said in Singapore that there is a lot of growth. ANA intends to be next gateway carrier for India
Now Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA), which has declared its ambition of becoming the next gateway carrier for India, is aiming to scoop up US-bound passengers and taking them to their destinations via its transit hub in Tokyo. Govt withdraws Kingfisher’s overseas traffic rights
The Union government has withdrawn traffic rights allocated to Kingfisher Airlines under bilateral aviation pacts with other countries with immediate effect. The ministry has also cancelled the domestic slots allocated to the airline under these slots, Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said on February 25.

Cochin airport’s cargo volume up by 5%
Cochin International Airport's focus on non-perishable goods helped it to register a five per cent increase in the volume of cargo handled during the first nine months of the current fiscal. From April to December 2012, the airport handled 34,305 tonne of cargo, against 32,950 tonne in the same period a year ago.

‘Asia-Pacific to lead demand for bigger, efficient planes’
According to latest forecast by Europe-based aircraft manufacturer Airbus, airliners from Asia Pacific region will surpass Europe and North America and lead the global demand for larger and more fuel efficient planes in the next 20 years. The companies are expected to take delivery of around 9,870 new passenger and cargo aircraft, including 3,840 widebody ones, valued at $1.6 trillion, it said, insisting the Asia-Pacific market is 'where the action will be' during the period.
