There should be a steady policy and quick redressal of the policy changes that have been brought to the attention of NHAI, AAI, AERA and such organisations. Approval procedures for land acquisition, environment clearance and financing policies for infrastructure need a re-think with a background that they should result in profitability and surpluses for the infrastructure companies investing in these sectors.

DFCC awards Rs 33 bn project
Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation has issued letter of intent for the Rs 3,300 crore contract to set up rail track between Bhaupur and Khurja in U.P. to a consortium of Tata Projects and Spanish firm Aldesa. The consortium is expected to begin physical work on the 343-km rail track project, which is funded by the World Bank, from March-April.The 343-km project was sliced into three subsets, and the bidders had been qualified to bid for one, two or all three.
Trai Act amendment likely by March
The telecoms department plans to expedite amendment of the Trai Act as it intends to initiate interministerial consultation within a month's time and float a Cabinet note for final approval by mid-March. TRAI works according to the Trai Act which states its functions and powers to be used for ensuring protection of consumer interest and growth of the industry.
Govt hopes to award 6,000 km contracts under EPC mode
The Union government would be able to give contracts for more than 6,000 km this fiscal on getting certain procedural approvals, said the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister CP Joshi on January 28. Under the EPC model (engineering, procurement and construction), the government spends the entire money required to build roads which would be instrumental in attracting builders who are at present shying away from highways projects for want of funds, he said.
