ONGC to speed up KG Basin work

The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) will accelerate work on a major oil and gas project in the Krishna Godavari basin by taking up works simultaneously with regard to exploration, development and seeking approvals from the government. ONGC has taken to production of both oil and gas from the KG Basin in a small way late in 2011.

The government plans to further reduce gas supply to non-priority sectors to meet the demand of fertiliser and power plants that are suffering because output from Reliance’s D6 field has fallen sharply.Gas supply from the D6 block has already been

Oil Minister S Jaipal Reddy said that India will launch its first-ever bid round for exploration of shale gas by December 2013. Six basins, namely Cambay, Assam-Arakan, Gondawana,KG onshore, Cauvery onshore and Indo Gangetic basins, have been identified that may have shale gas potential.

Gujarat State Petronet (GSPL) has been awarded the Rs 855-crore Bathinda-Jammu-Srinagar gas pipeline project by the Union government.This was revealed at a high level mee­ting of officers chaired by Chief Secretary Madhav Lal, who reviewed 750-km long Bathinda in Punjab via Jammu to Srinagar gas pipeline project in Mumbai.

Gas production down for 14th straight month

The domestic gas production stood down for the 14th straight month in January due to the continuous drop in Reliance Industries-operated Krishna Godavari Basin D6 block output.The output fell by 8.9 percent year-on-year at 3.963 billion cu m. Reliance Industries has told the government that natural gas production at the producing fields in the blo­ck was likely to fall.
