Union Shipping Secretary PK Sinha has said that through tax-free infrastructure bonds the Jawaharlal Nehru Port, Mumbai, Ennore Port and Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) will together raise around Rs 3,500 crore.
While JNPT will issue the bonds for Rs 2,000 crore to finance its dredging work, the Ennore Port (EPL) will raise
Rs 1,000 crore for infrastructure augmentation. The DCI will raise Rs 500 crore to procure a new dredger.

Dredging Corp, ports to raise ` 3,500 cr via infra bonds
Kolkata Port investment plan
In order to reverse the decline in cargo traffic at Kolkata Port, the authority planned to invest Rs 15,000 crore on various development projects till the end of the 12th Five Year Plan (2016-17). Cargo handling at the port declined to 43.245 million tonne (mn t) in 2011-12 compared to 47.545 mn t in the previous fiscal. The decline is attributed mainly to a fall in liquid bulk as also in crude oil movement.
Workers’ strike at major ports on Feb 20, 21
To protest against the 'anti-labour and anti-port policies' of the government, workers of major ports in India will strike work on February 20 and 21. SR Kulkarni, president, All India Port & Dock WorkersÂ’ Federation said that the present policy of the government enforced under the pretext of port reforms is nothing but intended to handover the existing ports into the hands of multinational companies.
Security to be upgraded in Beypore port

Contract opportunities in PPT
Odisha-based Paradip Port Trust (PPT) plans to raise its cargo handling capacity from 80 million metric tonne to 143 million metric tonne by the year 2015 and to 252 million metric tonne by 2020 through a host of capacity expansion projects, the port said in its website. JNPT loaded 4.32 mn standard containers
Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) loaded 4.32 million standard containers from three separate container terminals in 2011-12. Out of this, Gateway Terminals handled 1.89 million standard containers. Gateway is the biggest of the three container loading facilities by volume operating at JN port.
PPT plans to expand cargo handling capacity
Paradip Port Trust (PPT) plans to expand its cargo handling capacity to 237 million tonne by the year ending 2020 in order to cater to the increase in EXIM trade. PPT is one of the major ports of India serving the eastern and central parts of the country.
Cargo volume at major ports declines in Apr-Nov 2012
