Biggest parcel size vessel at Dhamra port

Dhamra Port recently berthed the highest capacity parcel size vessel handled by an Indian port, having capacity to carry 207,785 DWT cargo. The vessel named 'Macau Mineral' brought with it 194,073 tonne coal from South Africa. The South Korean made ship is 312 m long and about 50 m in breadth, was built in 1989.

Mundra crosses 100-mt mark in cargo throughput

Mundra port in Gujarat has handled 100 million tonne (mt) of cargo during 2013-14, joining an elite club of global ports that have reached this mark. Mundra also became India's biggest port in terms of cargo handled. Mundra port surpassed Kandla port, located just 60 km away on the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat, in terms of the amount of cargo handled.

The Shipping Ministry will seek support from the Finance Ministry for covering the funding gap for two major ports proposed in West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. A Cabinet note on the subject is being prepared, he said. The government has finalised Sagar and Dugarajapatnam as the two sites for setting up of the ports.

VOC Port handles 286.42 lakh tonne in 2013-14

VO Chidambaranar (VOC) Port in Tuticorin handled a throughput of 286.42 lakh tonne during the financial year 2013-14, surpassing the pre-¡vious year's achievement of 282.60 lakh tonne and registered a growth of 1.35 per cent, in spite of global cues. Imports accounted for 209.77 lakh tonne and exports accounted for 76.65 lakh tonne.

APSEZ highest bidder at Ennore port

The Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has emerged as the highest bidder to construct a container terminal at the Ennore Port. The company offered highest revenue for the planned Rs 1,270 crore project, compared to DP World which was the runner. Third company, Singapore Port Authority (SPA) did not participate in the final financial bid. Totally 11 firms have shown interest in the technical bid, however only three firms came to financial bid, according to a port official.

Dighi Port located in Raigad district of Maharashtra is scouting for investors to raise around Rs 200 crore for port´s expansion. The company is raising capital to complete the first phase of port development, after which the total installed capacity of the port will be around 30 million tonne. The fund raise will be aided by IL and FS Transportation Networks, an investor in Dighi Port.

Ministry achieves target of port projects

Union Shipping Ministry has met the FY14 target of awarding 30 port projects, which entail an investment of over Rs 21,000 crore, adding 217 million tonne in the annual additional capacity. Unoin Shipping Minister GK Vasan said the target has been achieved with almost a full month to go on the back of changes in policies. He said during the past four years, it has awarded 88 new projects requiring an investment of Rs 42,953 crore.
