The Union Ministry of Shipping has appointed
Pradeep Mohanty as Deputy Conservator of New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT). Mohanty joined NMPT as Harbour Master on November 10 2008 and subsequently he was holding the additional charges of Deputy Conservator with effect from December 3, 2008.

Indian maritime sector to touch $80 bn by 2020
Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Registrar of Shipping Arun Sharma has stated that the country's maritime business is set to grow by 20 per cent annually to reach $80 billion by 2020. India's maritime business has a lot of opportunities, Arun Sharma said.
Govt to promote coastal shipping for cargo
To attract manufacturers and transporters to the coastal shipping mode of transport from road and rail movement of their goods, the Union Ministry of Shipping is planning to offer them certain incentives. Currently, in India, over 60 per cent of the domestic cargo is moved by road and 30 per cent by rail, with coastal shipping accounting for only about 8 per cent.
Chennai port to develop its dry dock facility
A dry dock facility will be expanded by the Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) at its century-old boat basin and timber pond. The dock facility would cater to smaller ships. After Hoogly Dock and Port Engineers at Kolkata, it will become the second dock in the east coast.
Paradip port achieves 33.13% growth in cargo handling
In the first six months of the current financial year, the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) handled 34.12 million tonne of cargo. This is an increase of 33.13 per cent compared to 25.63 million tonne last year and is also 7.53 per cent higher over the target fixed for the period.
Kerala to re-tender Azhikkal port project
The Kerala government is delaying work on the Azhikkal Port in Kannur district as it did not receive sufficient bids for the work. The Kerala State Planning Board and the Finance Department is not ready to give its nod to the project without sufficient bidders. Now the government has decided to re-tender the project.
Weak Rupee brings Rs 10-cr gain to Kochi port
For the cash-starved Kochi port depreciating rupee is proving to be a boon, at least in terms of collections through vessel-related charges. The port officials say that due to the weakening of the Indian currency the port has earned Rs 10 crore this fiscal.
Paradip port posts 33.13% growth in traffic
Paradip Port Trust (PPT) has posted a 33.13 per cent growth in traffic throughput at 34.12 million tonne (mt) in the first half of the current fiscal (April to September 2013-14) from 25.83 mt in the corresponding period of last fiscal.
Rise in Paradip port’s cargo traffic
In the first six months of the current financial year, Paradip Port Trust (PPT) has handled 34.12 million tonne of cargo. The handled cargo output is more from 25.63 million tonne in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 33.13 per cent.
Haldia Dock Complex achieves 26% growth
Despite a fall in crude movement, the Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) facility under Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) has registered a 26 per cent expansion in cargo in September this year as compared with the corresponding month in 2012.
