Green nod kept in pending for Port Pipavav expansion

A fresh appraisal has been ordered by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on the proposed expansion of Port Pipavav in Amreli district of Gujarat. The NGT on August 22 kept in abeyance for six months the clearance granted for expansion of Port Pipavav and asked the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) and the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the State government to conduct a fresh appraisal of the project.

Abandoned Kozhikode port building to be renovated

The hitherto abandoned 'Port Guesthouse and port office in Kozhikode, owned by the Port Department, which owns the plot and the building, is to renovate by spending Rs 40 lakh. Officials concerned said that a proposal to renovate the building has been sent to the government and it was yet to get a response. The project included converting the building to house the offices of the port conservator and internal vigilance officer and project monitoring officer of the department.

Two more years will take for the opening of the maritime heritage museum in Chennai. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has taken up the project. The maritime museum is to come up in Mamallapuram. Decommissioned submarine – INS Vagli – will become a part of the heritage museum. The project could be divided into two parts – submarine museum and heritage museum. As Mamallapuram receives a huge number of visitors, they should be allowed to have a look at the submarine museum.
