Tower providers plan to use green power

The Tower and Infrastructure Providers’ Association is pla­nning to float a request for proposal (RFP) inviting NGOs and private green power companies to generate and supply off-grid power to telecom towers in the country. The association pro­­­poses the ‘RESCO off-grid dis­­tribution model’ where renewable energy companies can set up renewable energy-based power plants near the telecom towers and sell power to the telecom company at a pre-determined cost.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is planning to set up a 1,000 mw solar park in the country.The ministry is thinking in terms of mandating local content for projects that would be set up in the park, while those come up elsewhere would not have any such restrictions.

Jaitapur plant progress

The Jaitapur nuclear power plant project, which is going to be built as part of the India-France civilian nuclear cooperation agreement, would take off soon, Bernard Bigot, Chairman of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission said in Delhi.Bigot assured India that stringent safety standards would be implemented in the Jaitapur plant and safety would be top priority.

According to a company filing, the board of directors of PowerGrid Corp cleared an investment of Rs 3,201.44 crore for transmission system for phase-I generation projects in Jharkhand and West Bengal.The project is part of the Rs 7,209.65 crore investment proposal approved by the board.
