Kochi’s old railway station to be revived at Rs 100 cr
In Kerala's Kochi, the old railway station or the Ernakulam Railway Goods Station behind the Kerala High Court is to be revived at Rs 100 crore. The project proposal has been submitted to the Southern Railway. Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal announced this in Kochi on April 8 and said the existing lines and the station building (abandoned a few decades ago) could be renovated using the initial outlay of Rs 100 crore.

SCR’s freight up thanks to more movement of coal
In the last fiscal, the South Central Railways has achieved an eight per cent increase in freight loading due to increased movement of coal and fertilisers. The zone handled 111.5 million tonne of cargo during the year against 103.2 mt in the previous year.

Centre starts marketing of rail freight corridor
Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has stated that the dedicated freight corridors would be able to carry heavier trains, paving the way to move 10,000-12,000 tonne of cargo per rake, which is about three times that of a train moving on the existing tracks.

Ernakulam-Kayamkulam line doubling to be over by 2014
The rail line doubling work of Ernakulam-Kayamkulam line through Kottayam and Alappuzha will be over by 2014-15. Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has said that the work is going on as per the revised schedule and this was the first time that the Railways is providing ‘committed funds’ for track doubling in the busy corridor.

Kochi Metro project gets Rs 298 cr from Kerala govt
Rs 297.75 crore has been sanctioned for Kochi Metro by the Kerala government on March 28. Out of this, Rs 88.50 crore is State Government's equity share and Rs 209.25 crore is for land acquisition. The State government had sanctioned Rs 19 crore for preparatory works as equity share.
