For time-bound and faster completion of National Highway (NH) projects in Kerala, all works including improvement, development, and maintenance of roads and bridges on NH stretches passing through the State, will be taken up in the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) mode. The decision to adopt the EPC mode instead of the item rate contracts comes in the wake of the latest guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Road Transports and Highways (MRTH), say sources.

Tenders to be called soon for Rs 250 cr flyover in Kolkata
The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) is preparing to float tenders for the proposed 7.4 km flyover from Batanagar to Jinjirabazar on Budge Budge Trunk Road in the city. The project has been stuck for years. Now the Centre has finally cleared the projeect, the State Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim, who is also the KMDA Chairman, said.
Goa’s Cavelossim locals demand 8 m wide bypass road
In Goa's Cavelossim village, the gram sabha unanimously adopted a resolution that the width of the proposed bypass road from near the under-construction Assolna-Cavelossim bridge to Xirro, Carmona, should not be more that 8 m, instead of 30 m that the villagers claimed to have been planned. Gram sabha members pointed out that the 30 m wide road would result in the village losing its rural character and insisted that the width of the road should be restricted to a maximum of 8 m.
Hyderabad’s SCB road to be widened

CM inaugurates Mumbai’s Eastern Freeway’s 1st phase
First phase of the Eastern Freeway of Mumbai city was inaugurated by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on June 13. It is the city's most-ambitious elevated road project. The cost for the first phase of the Eastern Freeway is stated to be at Rs 847-crore. More than 35,000 motorists will now be able to use the 14 km, elevated road from Orange Gate near CST station to Chembur in the Eastern suburb.
IL&FS arm signs pact for highway projects
In a communication to the stock exchange, IL&FS Transportation Networks said it signed Concession Agreements with the concerned authorities for the following projects: (i) Kiratpur Ner Chowk section of NH 21 of 90.175 km in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. (ii) Beawar Gomti section of NH 8 of 88 km of the total 116 km (capacity augmentation) in Rajasthan. (iii) Sikar Bikaner section of NH 11 of 237.57 km in the Rajasthan
Flyover in Kokkata caves in, traffic affected
In Kolkata, the flyover that links Belghoria Expressway with Jessore Road to National Highway 2 and NH 6 was indefinitely closed to traffic on June 11 afternoon after a big chunk of concrete caved in, leaving a gaping hole on the west-bound flank. National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) officials were unwilling to commit on when the expressway would again be opened to traffic. Kerala govt to build 22 new roads
The Kerala State Cabinet on June 12 gave its approval to an ambitious project to develop 22 new roads/flyovers in various parts of the state and the State capital Thiruvananthapuram. Flyovers will be built at Palarivattom, Vytilla and Kundanoor on the Edapally-Aroor stretch of the National Highway and at Kalamaserry Apollo junction, as part of the project. Elevated corridor ready for traffic in Nashik
In Nashik, the he 6.1-km elevated corridor on the Mumbai-Agra national highway is ready for vehicular traffic. However, at Adgaon Naka, where the flyover descends north of Dwarka junction on the highway, a patch of 150 meters on the service road is still not completed given the objection by its landlord who has been demanding compensation.
