A’bad’s SG h’way expansion takes off, faces hurdle

After a delay of over six months, the widening work on an important stretch of the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway (NH 8-C), which connects the western part of Ahmedabad to the state capital (Gandhinagar) has finally taken off. The Rs 55-crore project has, however, hit a roadblock with the compound wall and sacred Nishan Sahib of Gobind Dham Gurudwara coming in the way of the expansion plan of the State Roads and Buildings Department.

In a big relief to all the stakeholders in the construction of Delhi-Gurgaon stretch, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) allowed Infrastructure Development Financing Company (IDFC) to take 74 per cent stake in the project on January 30 and is likely to extend deadlines for the work. Overlaying on the entire Delhi-Gurgaon stretch was to be completed, as per an agreement signed by the NHAI, the project concessionaire and IDFC.
