State roads to become NH

State roads to become NH

The government is to declare about 7,200 km of roads in approximately 132 districts as national highways. The move is seen as a last minute attempt by the government to improve its tally to bringing in more roads under the NH network. In the past four-and-a-half years, about 10,000 km of state highways were added to the NH network and the fresh addition will take the tally to over 17,000 km under this umbrella.

NHAI to float bids for road projects in TN

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will float bids for three important road projects in Tamil Nadu. These roads will connect Rameswaram reducing the travel time to the pilgrim island by road. NHAI has so far completed work in the 90 km stretch in the two-lane highway between Tiruchi and Ramanathapuram via Karaikudi. This highway with paved shoulders on NH 210 has been executed at a cost of Rs 374 crore.

The Bihar Road Construction Department (RCD) is planning to have a bridge maintenance policy on the lines of road maintenance policy. The RCD has constructed 19,000 km of roads and over 12,000 bridges and culverts since 2006. The government is now focusing on the maintenance of these roads and bridges because there has been no such policy so far.

Centre approves Goa road projects

Centre approves Goa road projects

The Central government, at the request of the PWD Minister of Goa and Goa MPs, decided to approve road projects in Goa.

The projects include Canacona national highway bypass which included Galjibag and Talpon bridges, western bypass in Salcete, Dhavli bypass, Ribandar bypass and missing link on NH 17B at Loutolim, etc.
