IIFCL to become sole lender to road developers
The Union Finance Ministry's decision to permit India Infrastructure Finance Corporation (IIFCL) to become the sole lender even at a pre-bid stage has been welcomed by road developers. However, the road developers stated that the exact impact will come to known only after the finer details emerge. The very fact that IIFCL can become the sole lender is a good decision. One of the key points is the project developer would not have to go to multiple banks.
WB loan for rural roads
The World Bank has approved a loan of $500 million loan for road projects in the backward areas in India. The World Bank loan will focus on three low-income states - Rajasthan, Bihar and Orissa - and on less developed regions in Karnataka and West Bengal. Highway soon to link India, Myanmar, Thailand
For smoother and faster movement of goods between India, Myanmar and Thailand a proposed highway is expected to be opened soon for traffic, the Union Government has announced. The Union Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said adding that the Indian government is presently working with the governments of Myanmar and Thailand.
India, China sign MoU
India and China have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for mutual benefit on roads and road transportation matters. The two sides have recognised the importance of roads and road transportation in the economic development process of each participant country, within their respective national policy framework.

A new port in Karnataka Honnavar has been planned by the state government at a cost of Rs 600 crore under public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Nod to 4-laning of A bad-Yedeshi h way at Rs 2,406.63 cr
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved four-laning of the Aurangabad-Yedeshi section of National Highway-211 in Maharashtra. The road work will be taken up under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase IV on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT-Annuity) in Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) pattern.
Arunachal road projects
To improve road connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh, the Union government has approved a network of roads and bridges at a cost of Rs 819 crore. The Union Rural Development Ministry's decision in this regard comes just ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Beijing and it emphasises the strategic importance of the bordering state over parts of which China lays claim.
Govt allows MPs to spend fund on roads, pavements
The Union government has decided to allow its MPs to spend their local area development (MPLAD) fund for works related to constructing roads, pavements and cycle tracks and this move has been appreciated by the Geneva-based International Road Federation (IRF). IRF is a global road safety organisation.
