The coal minister has ruled out scrapping of e-auction of coal and indicated that any such move would increase the pithead stock. Since the Supreme Court has allowed e-auctions, the government eliÂeves it is the only route for people who don't have a coal linkage.
Huge stocks of coal at pithÂeads has been a big concern, and so far, the railways have not completely helped out due to non-availability of wagons. Nearly 70 mt of stock is lying at the pitheads and is sold on e-auction at nearly 80-90 per cent higher rate than the administered price.
